BAT SIZE GUIDE
Picking the right size bat is crucial to your success on the field. If it’s too small or too big, batting will be uncomfortable and your performance will be compromised.
Bat size is based on the height of the player. Take a look at our handy Size Guide to see which bat size you should choose.
Long handle is available on some bats, but Short Handle is the bat of choice by all our professional cricketers over 6ft including Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley.
Here are a few terms you may need along the way
SH = Short Handle
LH = Long Handle
LB = Long Blade
SM = Small Men’s
HOW MUCH SHOULD I SPEND ON MY BAT?
There are a range of cricket bats that cater to all levels and abilities. Prices vary according to the grade of the willow used for the bat.
Bats are graded and therefore priced according to their aesthetic, and their predicted performance potential. Generally bats that look better cosmetically perform better, and are therefore priced accordingly.
A casual player on a Sunday might consider an option such as a Vapour 1.0 3 Star for £149.99, while a more regular player at a higher level would consider an Alpha 5 Star for £299.99 or a Gray-Nicolls Players edition for £399.99.

THE SWITCH TO GEM
We bought it about three weeks ago after using a Kookaburra Blaze 500 last season – WoW, what an upgrade! She struggled at first with the change from the man’s heavier bat and has had a bit of a toil with it since cricket came out of lockdown but on Sunday last she self-corrected and moved her hands closer together and gripped the bat nearer to the top of the handle. Oh my goodness, what a difference.
She is 14 years old and was playing an intra match with Cricket Scotland’s U18s Western Warriors Regional side. She hit boundary after boundary and came off after her innings and said ‘Well that works then!’.
