Punjab Kings’ bowling coach, Charl Langeveldt, recently expressed his concern over the team’s batting performance following yet another defeat this season. Having lost six out of eight games, including most of their matches at their new home ground in Mullanpur, the team finds itself struggling to secure victories.
In their latest match, despite a promising start with a half-century opening stand, Punjab Kings suffered a familiar batting collapse, losing 7 wickets for just 47 runs. Even the efforts of Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma couldn’t salvage the situation, resulting in a disappointing total of 142 all out.
Langeveldt acknowledged the disappointment within the team and among the fans, emphasizing the need for improvement in the middle order to score more runs. He highlighted that the team fell short by about 20 runs on the given pitch.
The spinners from Gujarat Titans dominated the bowling attack, collectively bowling the most overs in a single match this season and claiming 7 wickets. In response, Punjab Kings opted for Harpreet Singh Bhatia as an Impact Player substitution amidst the collapse, leaving Rahul Chahar on the bench.
Charl Langeveldt explained the decision, stating that in such situations, it’s crucial to prioritize getting runs on the board. He expressed optimism about the upcoming matches, especially at venues like Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which are more favorable for batting.
As the league season progresses, Punjab Kings find themselves near the bottom of the points table. However, Langeveldt remains hopeful, emphasizing the importance of maintaining belief and positivity within the team. Despite the challenges, he believes there is still much to play for and is determined to see the team bounce back with wins in the remaining matches.
