Pakistan’s white-ball captain, Babar Azam, has shared the team’s new mindset and strategic adjustments for the upcoming series against England and the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and West Indies next month.
In a pre-series press conference, Babar revealed that the team decided to change their approach after losing the first T20 match against Ireland. He emphasized that while fans often expect continuous aggressive batting with frequent fours and sixes, the team must adapt to the situation during the game.
“We changed our style of cricket and mindset after losing the 1st T20 against Ireland. People want us to hit only fours and sixes, but we have to play according to the situation,” Babar explained.
Additionally, the 29-year-old captain announced a significant shift in his batting position for the upcoming major tournament. “You’ll see our planning in this series, but yes, we can make one or so changes according to the conditions or what is required. Mostly, I’ll be batting at one down,” he said.
Babar also stressed the importance of the England series as crucial preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024. “The England series is a golden opportunity for us to win and gain confidence for the T20 World Cup 2024,” he remarked.
Reflecting on their recent series against Ireland, where Pakistan secured a 2-1 victory, Babar expressed confidence that the team will maintain their winning momentum into the England series. “Our 2-1 victory showcased the brilliance of our batters and bowlers while providing us with learnings as we aim to work on our areas of improvement,” he added.
In positive news for the team, Babar confirmed that fast bowler Haris Rauf has been cleared by the medical panel to participate in both the England series and the T20 World Cup. “We’ve received clearance for Haris Rauf. He’s available for this series. So, by the will of Almighty Allah, he will surely be seen in action,” Babar concluded.
The upcoming series against England marks Pakistan’s final preparation before the T20 World Cup, with the opening match scheduled to take place in Leeds on May 22. This series will be pivotal in refining their strategies and building momentum as they head into the global tournament.
